There is nothing better than getting that heart pounding high quality sound from your PC audio equipment when you are deep in the trenches fragging it out, racing to the finish line, going the green, or just trying to shake the walls with your mp3 collection. Logitech surprised me with their budget Z-640's and now they want to try to do it again with their Z-5300's.
This set is second in command for the top ranks in the Logitech line of speakers. Surpassed only by the z-680's these speakers, the Z-5300's, boast some great features like 280 watts, THX certification, a wired remote, and some how manages to pack them all into a $199.99 price tag; I can easily say that I am impressed so far, and I haven't even opened the box yet!

Well, you know what folks? I am demanding, I am a gamer, and I have ONE HELL OF AN mp3 collection, so let's see what you can do for me Logitech.
Packed inside this green and white box rests my arsenal for revenge against my neighbors. Logitech decided to supply me with 100 watts from my subwoofer, and 180 watts from the rest (2 x 35.25W front, 2 x 35.25W rear, 39W center) for a total of 280 watts of floor shaking fun! Let's hope my lease can handle it!
With the Z-640 line from Logitech the center channel speaker acts as your control center for everything audio: power button, volume control, fader, center speaker volume, matrix, and a much appreciated headphone jack. This was fantastic because everything was easy to get to, provided you had your center channel speaker in close proximity to where you are sitting. The Z-5300's stray from this thinking and have incorporated into the system a wired remote to control your experience, which I must say is a much welcomed feature!
From this remote you control your volume, subwoofer volume (thank you so much for taking it off the sub and giving us easy access to it!), the fader, the center channel volume, your matrix functions, the much appreciated headphone jack, and power for the system. The dial is smooth and precise when it comes to adjusting and the lights above it give you a good indication of how soon the police will be showing up at your door. The wired remote is great but I guess I really can't expect a wireless remote for a sub $200.00 set of speakers, although it would be GREAT, hint hint Logitech; especially for those of us that wish to use these for our HTPC (Home Theatre PC).
What is the Matrix? - The matrix option is something for those who do not have the support for 5.1 speakers systems. To create an effect where all speakers are working, the matrix combines the center channel speaker with the front left and right speakers.
