This final menu item is "Option".
I am not sure if the name is indicative of the function, but that is irrelevant. This item is used for formatting either the internal memory or a SD/MMC memory card. You can also use this section to reset the camera back to factory default settings if you get trigger-happy with the other menus and things go haywire.
I've covered most of the options in-depth so far with the exception of the movie mode. If you were looking forward to recording juniors' Christmas program with the DXG-308U, forget it. For that matter, if you had that thought in mind with just about any other digital camera, forget that too. They simply aren't made for that type of use. However, if you have a moment that can't be captured with a single image, we can accommodate you. The amount of action you can capture in video format will depend on how large you memory card is. I say memory card because the internal memory of 16MB, depending on the quality you select, will only allow you about 80 seconds maximum of recording time. I generally utilize a 256MB card which gives me ~20 minutes of video per card. I could write a very lengthy article on how to convert that video for use in your DVD player, but that is for another day. Suffice it to say the movie you shoot with a digital camera is very suitable for inclusion in e-mails. That is nothing to sniff about. Providing short movies with e-mail is an extremely creative way to keep in touch. As I mentioned above, you just turn the mode dial to movie mode and depress the shutter button to begin your career as a director. When it comes to value, everyone has his or her own definition depending on the subject. On the subject of digital cameras, that definition has to include the software. As mentioned earlier, the DXG-308U comes with a software CD that contains 4 software products and the driver (A driver is software that works to communicate between an operating system and a peripheral, here your camera. Think of it as a translator.) for the camera. Installation is as simple as inserting the CD, selecting the particular item you wish to install and following the on-screen instructions.
I will list each of the software applications separately with their individual functionality. All software are products from Arcsoft.
Funhouse
The name is a good indicator of the function. Have fun. Get goofy and enjoy the experience of creating funny portraits, postcards, whatever. Choose from a bevy of pre-made templates and insert the picture of your choice. Put Aunt Lorainne on a surfboard or imagine your cousin as a comical cartoon character. The only limit is your imagination.
Photobase
Here is the heart of the software. From this application you can acquire images from your photo equipment, import images, build albums, create slideshows, make postcards even e-mail images directly.
Photoimpression
TPhotoimpression is another program from which you can acquire images, take screen captures, create albums, etc. It lacks the functionality of Photobase but provides a simpler interface from which to work.ext
Videoimpression
Videoimpression also gives you the ability to acquire still images but throws video into the mix. Here you can capture video, add it to a storyboard and edit small videos into one large one. There are audio templates, video templates, color templates and more to make the job easier. You can even watch the video you created before you commit it to CD.
