Introduction
Back in August I had the opportunity to preview the E-1 from Olympus and was both impressed and intrigued by the experience. This time I have the real article in my itchy palms. Olympus has touted this as the world's first digital interchangeable lens SLR system. A photography system that could change the way we look at digital imaging and the world around us. I knew from the preview that I would be getting a professional quality unit and hoped that the operation wouldn't require one to be a professional to capture images worth saving. Read on and let's find out.

When I speak of the E-1 I have to note that it is a system. It consists of a camera body and lens, which lens is up to your specific needs and requirements. The specs of the system and specifically what you get with your purchase are detailed below:

Overview
One of the first things I noticed when I removed the body from the box was the heft(23oz w/o battery) of the unit. Some may say it feels rather heavy and cumbersome, but I prefer to describe it as sturdy. This camera feels like it can take some pretty rough handling, and for the cost it should. When I requested this particular model from Olympus I also asked for the optional FL-50 electronic flash, HLD-2 Power battery holder w/charger, flash card and adapter and 50-200mm lens. Remember, no lens is included with the body.
To say I was impressed with the look of the unit is an understatement. I am a fan of basic black and this one didn't disappoint. All the compartments, rubber flaps and joints are flush and built solid; living up to it's splashproof claims. With the addition of the power battery holder, you can grip the camera with even the massive 50-200mm lens I used and feel comfortable about lugging it around without fear of it slipping from your grasp. I will admit that with the 50-200mm lens and flash attached it was decidedly, shall we say, heavy. But, I was prepared for this eventuality due to my recent experience during my preview some time ago.
