Menus, etc.
As with all digital cameras, this one has a nice menu function that is displayed on the 1.8" TFT screen located on the back of the unit. All the standard options are there (format, flash, focus, etc.) and your settings are displayed on the top of the unit for easy access. You can switch between PC control of the camera, to take pics directly to your PC; and camera control to download pics to your PC. You can choose to have the camera display the most recent picture taken on the TFT screen (w/adjustable time display length) or disable it and view the images at a later date.so, pretty much any function that is available in the menu system is available somewhere on the body of the camera. It can get confusing with so many adjustments, but once you have the camera for some time, it will become second nature. You will also find the settings that work for the majority of your needs and learn where to adjust as necessary. Once again, if it all seems too much, simply set it to auto and shoot away. Below you will find some shots of the included software and various shots of the camera:

Conclusion
In conclusion, let me say that I was very satisfied with the E-1. It is a durable, quality unit that I would be proud to have in my personal collection. Anyone want a list? Ok, let's have one:

Pros

  • Solidly built
  • Splashproof
  • Fast response time/focus speed
  • Very crisp images
  • No media card included
  • Cons

  • Costly(see my previous preview for prices)
  • Autofocus inconsistencies
  • Noise reduction slows unit tremendously
  • Trial Software not full version
  • Overall, I would consider the E-1 one of the top digital SLR's on the market. Some of the competitors may offer more options and various other sundries but none can match the Olympus in picture quality. I will close with a few samples of the other pictures I was able to take during my brief interlude with the E-1. I think it is an exceptional unit, notwithstanding the faults mentioned above and would definitely recommend it for you budding professionals out there. Of course, that's just my opinion; your mileage may vary.
