The Continuum

I recently had the opportunity to get some up close and personal time with the developers of the upcoming online collectible TCG (Trading Card Game) "The Continuum" at GenCon. Up until a couple of weeks before the show, I had never heard of either The Continuum or Seven Lights, the company behind the game.

I knew the genre of TCG, whether truly played with cards or not, having frequented GenCon several times. My expectations were neither high nor low as I purposely limited my exposure to the existing information about the game. I prefer to form my own opinions rather than bias my view with others' preconceived notions. One big reason is that the Beta hasn't even been released yet, so speculation plays a big part in any preview. I will be on the front lines for you though, as I am scheduled to be one of the Beta testers. Before you ask, no I don't know when the Beat will launch. They wouldn't tell me either, despite repeated pleas and underhanded queries. I even tried a tactic I rarely employ because it is not my forte, subtlety. They were still tight lipped, though they were smiling and excited. I was only scheduled for 30 minutes I believe, but we ended up talking for around an hour.

There is a lot of passion involved in the development and direct marketing, it's almost palpable. They even have another game in development, even though the Beta for this one isn't out yet, lol. I asked about the aggressive development model, but there was no hesitation or equivocation. They seem prepared for the challenges and roaring to go. You can see there maniacal visages below. That's me with the SIGNED copy of issue 3 of the comic, as if you couldn't tell:

They were an amicable group and very accommodating for the first thing in the morning. I had the distinct pleasure and honor of being the first person, outside of Seven Lights personnel, to actually play the game. It was only a small taste, 5-10 minutes, and mostly explanations of the various aspects but fun nonetheless. Needless to say, I lost. Horribly.
